On Xenophon (c.428-c.354) see generally C.J. Tuplin in OCD(4) s.v. Xenophon(1), and again xi 48. For the present material cf. Diogenes Laertius 2.48, 52, 55-57.
[1] The more authentic spelling is Gryllos.
[2] The nickname obviously indicates (what is otherwise not directly attested) that they were twins; cf. delta 1209. On "Grylos" see the preceding note. (The spelling is correct in gamma 463, from Harpokration.)
[3] 400-397. For Plato see pi 1707.
