Translation: Lifting up three apples in his left hand,[1] because he had adorned himself with the tripartite nature of the soul.[2]
Herakles son of Pekos, also [called] Zeus,[3] was the best philosopher. He is depicted wearing the skin of a lion, carrying a cudgel and possessing the three apples, which the mythographers say he took after killing the dragon with his cudgel, that is to say, when he conquered the argument of his appetite, and thus he had the three apples, that is to say, the three virtues, not to be angry, not to love money, and not to be wanton: and the vestment of the lion [represents] the noble mind with which he was invested.[4]

Notes:
This entry most likely refers to the statue of Herakles,
Weary Herakles or
Herakles Trihesperus, which was cast in bronze by Lysippus (or those in his school at
Athens) in late C4 BCE. It was transferred from Rome in C4 CE (cf.
beta 157 end) and stood in the Hippodrome at Constantinople until 1205 CE, when crusaders melted it down to produce coinage. The masterpiece inspired many replicas in the ancient world, the most famous of which that has been recovered and reconstructed being the Farnese Hercules, now standing in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples; cf. Beard and Henderson (198-201).
[1] Herakles' eleventh labor involved getting the Apples of the Hesperides, which grew on a tree guarded by a dragon. See also
eta 475. Assuming that the Farnese Hercules is a faithful version of the original, the Suda is mistaken here; Herakles holds the stolen apples behind his back in his right hand (web address 1).
