"After defeating Mithridates, Lucullus the Roman arrived in the Troad and camped near the shrine of Aphrodite, where he was given this oracle: 'why are you slumbering, great-hearted lion? Fawns are close by'. Realising with a start that [sc. this meant that] the king was nearby, he fell on him and killed him".[2]
Greek Original:Knôssô: to koimômai. Loukoullos de ho Rhômaios ton Mithridatên katastrepsamenos kai prosschôn têi Trôiadi kai skênôn para to tês Aphroditês temenos êkouse chrêsmou toioude: ti knôsseis, megathume leon; nebroi de toi engus. kai hos exanastas kai puthomenos hôs eiê plêsion ho basileus, epipesôn diaphtheirei auton.
