Headword: Ὑποκοριζόμενοι
Adler number: upsilon,517
Translated headword: nicknaming
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning they who are] ridiculing. Xenophon [writes]: "those who hate me call me Badness, nicknaming [me].".[1] But Demosthenes used the word in reference to [people] palliating and calling something bad with a good name. For he says in the [speech] on the False Embassy: "they impose on themselves a servitude of their own choosing, nicknaming it Philip's guest-friendship and comradeship and and suchlike."[2]
"[... him] looking away into the crowd, to learn where the 'slaves' seemed to him to come from -- for thus was he nicknaming the ex-soldiers."[3]
Notes:
The headword, presumably extracted from the first quotation given, is present participle, masculine nominative plural, of ὑποκορίζομαι .
