Headword: Parapempô
Adler number: pi,405
Translated headword: I escort
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Used] with an accusative. "He escorts voyagers with good cheer."[1] Also [used] with a dative of advantage. "But rather they escort the present cosmos to the future [one]."[2]
Greek Original:
Parapempô: aitiatikêi. parapempei plôtêras sun euthumiai. kai kata peripoiêsin dotikêi. mallon de kosmon parapempousi ton enestôta tôi mellonti.
Notes:
A marginal addition in ms. A.
[1] Quotation not identified by Adler but identifiable via the TLG as Gregory of Nazianzus, Orations 44.10 (PG 36.617); "he" is a dolphin.
[2] An approximated quotation from, again, Gregory of Nazianzus (Orations 43.62). The most significant discrepancy is that the original has the feminine accusative participle parape/mpousan ('[virginity] escorting'), not the Suda's parape/mpousi ('they escort').
