Adler number: pi,361
Translated headword: has struck a wrong note
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Attic-speakers say [this] as if [to say] [he/she/it] has erred.[1]
Also [sc. attested is] παράχορδον ["discordant, out of tune"].[2]
Greek Original:
Παρακεχόρδηκεν, οἷον παρημάρτηκε λέγουσιν Ἀττικοί. καὶ παράχορδον.
Notes:
[1] Likewise in Photius pi254 Theodoridis; and similarly already in Hesychius pi543, except that he spells the headword παρακεχόρδικεν -- correctly, in Theodoridis' view. This perfect is Comica adespota fr. 1103 Kock, now 525 K.-A. The future tense of παραχορδίζω occurs in Aristophanes, Ecclesiazusae 295 (pi 490, pi 491).
[2] Adjective (or adverb), attested only here and in Photius.
Keywords: comedy; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; imagery; meter and music
