This headword appears in Timaeus' Platonic Lexicon (apparently prompted by Plato, Apology 22D), and again in Photius pi944 Theodoridis, with the etymological/punning gloss pollh\ a)me/leia. Its literal meaning is a false note in music (see LSJ s.v.), but figurative applications are common.
