Headword: *filoklh=s
Adler number: phi,379
Translated headword: Philokles, Philocles
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A comic poet,[1] ugly in appearance. He was prominent-headed, like a hoopoe, i.e. pointy-headed; a son of a sister of Aeschylus. But others maintain that his nickname was Briny, because of his being bitter; for brine is [an example of] bitterness. So [the word prokephalos] is applied to those with pointed heads.
