Headword: *)orektei=n
Adler number: omicron,528
Translated headword: to stretch out for, to long for
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to set one's heart upon.[1] And o)rektia=n [sc. means] the same thing.[2]
Greek Original:
*)orektei=n: e)piqumei=n. to\n au)to\n kai\ o)rektia=n.
Notes:
The headword, perhaps extracted from somewhere but unattested outside lexicography, appears to be the present active infinitive of a verb o)rekte/w, equivalent in meaning to the middle voice of o)re/gw, I stretch out (for); see LSJ s.v.
[1] This gloss is the present active infinitive of the contract verb e)piqume/w, I set my heart upon; see LSJ s.v. The headword is identically glossed in Hesychius omicron1142, the Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana 320.4, and Photius' Lexicon (omicron452 Theodoridis); cf. De Stefani, p. 64.
[2] This supplementary item similarly appears in the Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana and Photius locc.citt. The late infinitive form cited here is the present active infinitive of the contract verb o)rektia/w (=o)re/gomai; cf. Sophocles, p. 815). If it is not simply paradigmatic, it might be extracted from Cyril of Alexandria, who has 2 instances (e.g. Commentary on John 2.564.28).
