Adler number: nu,187
Translated headword: freshly-budding
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] having recently sprouted.[1]
Greek Original:
*neoqalh/s: newsti\ blasth/sasa.
Note:
[1] Something feminine, as this glossing phrase shows. Likewise already Hesychius nu321, glossing the accusative singular neoqhle/a (from Homer, Iliad 14.347) with newsti\ qa/llousan; cf. the scholia there. The present entry, of nominative singulars, could well derive from that; alternatively, if the nominative neoqalh/s (a variant of neoqhlh/s) is quoted from somewhere as such, the possibilities include Pindar, Nemean 9.48 (web address 1), and cf. Euripides, Iphigeneia in Aulis 188 for the dative (web address 2). Other lexica (references at Photius nu130 Theodoridis) have the headword neoqalh/s but glossed as masculine.
