Aristophanes [writes]: "personally I am a most blissful woman, to have anointed my head with good perfumes; but the little amphoras [of wine] from Thasos exceed them by far."[1] "Little amphoras" [are] jars;[2] and "ceasing to flower"[3] [means] dried up.

Μεμύρωμαι: Ἀριστοφάνης: μακαριωτάτη ἐγώ, ἥτις μεμύρωμαι τὴν κεφαλὴν μυρώμασιν ἀγαθοῖς: πολὺ δ' ὑπερπέπαικεν αὐτῶν τὰ Θάσια ἀμφορείδια. ἀμφορείδια τὰ κεράμια: ἀπανθήσαντα δὲ ξηρανθέντα.
