For this reason also the colocynth is called a lily, and they also call paupers lilies.[2] This κολόκυνθα is a Median [= Persian] word.

Κρίνον: τὸ ἄνθος. ἀπὸ τῆς διακρίσεως. διὸ καὶ τὰ τῆς διακρίσεως λέγεται κρίνον εὐμάραντον καὶ ταχὺ διαπίπτον. διὸ καὶ ἡ κολόκυνθα κρίνον λέγεται, καὶ τοὺς πτωχοὺς δὲ κρίνα λέγουσιν. αὐτὴ δὲ ἡ κολόκυνθα Μηδικόν ἐστιν ὄνομα.
Virtually the same entry in the Etymologicum Gudianum (347.46ff.), and cf. Hesychius kappa4135.
