[Meaning he/she/it] is discredited, judged unfavourably, rejected after scrutiny, corrupted.
Greek Original:
*kekibdh/leutai: diabe/blhtai, kate/gnwstai, a)podedoki/mastai, neno/qeutai.
Notes:
Perfect middle/passive, third person singular, of kibdhleu/w. The glosses -- also in the Synagoge and other lexica: see the references at Photius kappa527 Theodoridis -- come from Phrynichus, Preparatio Sophistica fr.322. The headword must be quoted from somewhere, perhaps from the author who provides the only attestations of it outside lexica: Philo Judaeus, De Decalogo 3.2, De Specialibus Legibus 1.326.2, and Quod omnis probus liber sit 98.4. Philo's usage is figurative (referring to souls and generations), which is consistent with the glosses.
cf. generally kappa 1573, kappa 1574, kappa 1575.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; ethics; imagery; philosophy
