I, 45), the Suda follows the Anthologia Palatina (AP) and the Anthologia Planudea in transmitting glagerw=n, but they follow the emendation given by the AP scribe designated C (the Corrector) in reading klagerw=n (ibid.). The LSJ s.v. ge/ranos (web address 1) identifies the fowler's screeching gamebird as the Common Crane, Grus cinerea (grus), a common spring and fall migrant through Greece. The Common Crane is not milk-white, however, but slate-gray in color; the Corrector's emendation is very well motivated if not certain; cf. Gow and Page, vol. II (65) and Thompson (41).
