A spirit associated with Aphrodite,[1] responsible for procreation, taking its name from the procreation [genesis] of children.[2] The name is created from genesis. But others say that [they are] associated with Artemis as guardians of childbirth, and again [this is connected] with genesis. Aristophanes [writes]: "sweet [is] the song, o lady Genetyllides, and female and tongued and tongue-kissed."[3]

Γενετυλλίς: δαίμων περὶ τὴν Ἀφροδίτην, γενέσεως αἴτιος, ἀπὸ τῆς γενέσεως τῶν παίδων ὠνομασμένος. πεποίηται δὲ τὸ ὄνομα παρὰ τὴν γένεσιν. οἱ δὲ περὶ τὴν Ἄρτεμίν φασι τῶν τοκετῶν ἐφό- ρους, καὶ πάλιν παρὰ τὴν γένεσιν. Ἀριστοφάνης: ἡδὺ τὸ μέλος, ὦ πότνιαι Γενετυλλίδες, καὶ θηλυδριῶδες καὶ κατεγλωττισμένον καὶ μανδαλωτόν.
