Adler number: eta,601
Translated headword: shielding
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning they] coming together.
Greek Original:
Ἠσπικότες: συνελθόντες.
Note:
The headword as transmitted is perfect participle, masculine nominative plural, of ἀσπίζω , denominative verb from ἀσπίς "I shield" (cf. generally alpha 4211). Similar entry -- the glossing participle is βοηθήσαντες "helping" -- already in Hesychius (eta904), where however Latte regards the headword as an acephalous version of the compound ὑπερησπικότες ; he cites the masculine accusative singular ὑπερησπικότα in 3 Maccabees 7.6 LXX.
