Εἰ μὴ κατένιψε τὴν Θρᾴκην χιόνι πολλῇ καὶ τοὺς ποταμοὺς ἔπηξ' ὑπ' αὐτὸν τὸν χρόνον, ἡνίκα Θέογνις ἠγωνίζετο. οὗτος τραγῳδίας ἦν ποιητὴς ψυχρός. κωμῳδῶν οὖν αὐτὸν παρίστησιν ἡμῖν τὴν πολλὴν χιόνα, διὰ τῆς τούτου περὶ τὰ ποιήματα ψυχρότητος.
