This entry has no close parallel in previous lexicography.
[1] The headword adjective can also mean well-lettered or cultured, as it does most other times it appears in the Suda (e.g. beta 150, gamma 451, nu 477, rho 32; cf. Hesychius epsilon2163), or eloquent (beta 32). For the word in the sense given here, cf. mu 207, nu 373.
[2] One might also consider translating 'noteworthy position' (as in office), but for that one might expect timi/a xw/ra (cf. Xenophon, Cyropaideia 8.4.10). The diminutive xwri/on is normally used of physical places. Although rare, one does find this phrase used in reference to physical places: Josephus, Jewish Antiquities 1.284; Cosmas Indicopleustes 9.18.
