Notes:
[1] = Synagoge epsilon695 up to this point; and very similarly already in Hesychius epsilon4910. See further, next note.
[2] = Photius, Lexicon epsilon1605 up to this point. The headword, superlative of a putative adjective e)piku/dhs in the masculine nominative singular, is presumably quoted from somewhere (other than the quotation given here, which has the feminine accusative). The few extant possibilities begin with Polybius 5.69.11, though its sense there (the Ptolemaic admiral Perigenes was e)pikude/steros ... tai=s e)lpi/si -- 'more sanguine' (LSJ) in his hopes -- of winning a sea-battle) is not a perfect fit with the present glossing.
[3] A close approximation of part of Menander Protector fr. 10.3 Blockley (via Constantine Porphyrogenitus, Excerpta de legationibus 194.31-195.1). The original differs in giving the name of "the Turk", Sizaboulos.
