Headword: Ἐντρέπῃ
Adler number: epsilon,1486
Translated headword: you are turned
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] you are turned back.[1]
Also [sc. attested is] I turn;[2] [used] with an accusative.
Greek Original:
Ἐντρέπῃ: ἐπιστρέφῃ. καὶ Ἐντρέπω: αἰτιατικῇ.
Notes:
This main part of this entry perhaps derives from scholia to Sophocles, Ajax 90 (web address 1), where the headword occurs, though no surviving scholion is notably similar.
[1] Both the headword and this gloss are translated as second person middle/passive indicatives, which is appropriate to every surviving instance of the headword. Morphologically speaking, both could also be third person active subjunctives. Every attestation of the headword (in this form) has the more metaphorical connotation of 'feel compunction' or 'feel regard', a sense which this gloss can also have (See LSJ s.v. ἐπιστρέφω II.3 (web address 2)). Cf. tau 549. Elsewhere, other forms of the headword are glossed with the equivalent form of ἐπιστρέφομαι or with a periphrasis involving the noun ἐπιστροφή : e.g. Hesychius epsilon3393; Lexica Segueriana 94.13; scholia to Homer, Iliad 15.554; Apollonius, Homeric Lexicon 69.21.
[2] An active, and generally transitive, form of the headword. This second gloss occurs only among the marginalia of mss A and M.
