Adler number: epsilon,1214
Translated headword: homeland which brought (to birth)
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[no gloss]
Greek Original:
*)enegkame/nh patri/s.
Notes:
= Synagoge epsilon398, Photius epsilon868, but in their editions of the Synagoge and Photius Cunningham and Theodoridis, respectively, print the participle e)negkame/nh as the lemma and patri/s as the gloss. In any event, cf. Hesychius gamma262, where the gloss on the headword geiname/nh ('giving birth') includes both of the words involved in this entry: e)negkame/nh, h( patri/s, a)f' h(=s u(pa/rxei ('[giving birth]: bearing, the homeland from which he arises.') As Latte notes in his edition of Hesychius, this makes sense as commentary on Euripides, Trojan Women 825, where the Doric form of Hesychius' headword, geiname/na, appears. This is probably the source of the material in the three other lexica as well.
The participle here is aorist middle, feminine nominative singular, of h)/negka/h)/negkon, used as aorist of fe/rw. cf. epsilon 1217.
