Headword: *diei/rousi
Adler number: delta,996
Translated headword: they draw through, they string together
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
The [term that means] they add on.
Greek Original:
*diei/rousi: to\ e)piba/llousin.
Note:
No equivalent entry in other lexica. The headword is present indicative active, third person plural, of diei/rw. It must be extracted from somewhere -- probably Aeschines 3.166 (purporting to quote an image used by his opponent Demosthenes), a passage famous enough to be repeated by Dionysius of Halicarnassus. Alternatives are few but include Xenophon, Cyropaedia 8.3.10. (The glossing is rather odd in any event, however.)
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; historiography; imagery; rhetoric
