Headword: Διέκυψαν
Adler number: delta,912
Translated headword: they bent over, they looked out
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Bending over from the earth like grass, they flowered.
Greek Original:
Διέκυψαν. χόρτῳ παραπλησίως ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς διακύψαντες ἤνθησαν.
Note:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras. The headword -- third person plural, aorist indicative active, of διακύπτω -- is quoted from the Psalm 91.8 LXX (92.7 RSV: "though the wicked sprout like grass, and all evildoers flourish"). As the sense of the Septuagint text is unclear, several commentators on the Psalms provided explanatory comment; this one follows Theodoret (PG 80.1617-1620).
