A musical instrument.[1]
"And Moses devised a bugle out of silver. There were 2, and they used one for orders and assemblies, the other for convening officials."[2]
Greek Original:
*buka/nh: o)/rganon mousiko/n. kai\ buka/nhn e)c a)rgu/rou eu(=re *mwu+sh=s. e)ge/nonto b#, kai\ th=| me\n pro\s parake/leusin kai\ sullogh\n e)xrw=nto, th=| de\ sunelqei=n a)rxa/s.
Notes:
[1] The headword is a transliteration of the Latin bucina. LSJ s.v. define it as "spiral trumpet, horn", but bugle is undoubtedly the best English rendering, on etymological and musicological grounds alike. Its spiral bore distinguished it clearly from the classic Greek "trumpet" (salpinx: sigma 66, sigma 68, cf. sigma 68).
