Headword: *briqome/nh
Adler number: beta,539
Translated headword: burdened
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] weighed down by the mass of things [she/it] was carrying.[1]
In the Epigrams: "of a hand burdened with disease-bringing old age."[2]
Greek Original:
*briqome/nh: barunome/nh dia\ plh=qos w(=n e)/feren. e)n *)epigra/mmasi: gh/rai+ nousofo/rw| briqome/nhs pala/mhs.
Notes:
The headword is present middle/passive participle, feminine nominative singular, of bri/qw. It might be generated by the quotation given, where it is in the corresponding genitive, but more probably it is extracted from somewhere in its own right; and the likeliest possibility is Homer, Iliad 8.307 (where it occurs in a simile comparing the head of the dying Gorgythion to that of a poppy); cf. the scholia there.
