[1] Also in Zenobius 1.98 and other paroemiographers.
[2] If the phrase "I am drawing water for you" is a quotation (rather than simply being a paradigmatic phrase to illustrate this idiom with dative of person), it is unidentifiable. However, the aorist ἀντλήσατε ὕδωρ is attested several times in Christian writings as a variant of the future ἀντλήσετε ὕδωρ in the Septuagint (Isaiah 12.3: ἀντλήσετε ὕδωρ μετ' εὐφροσύνης ἐκ τῶν πηγῶν τοῦ σωτηρίου .
