Greek Original:
*)antlei=n a)mfote/rais: lei/pei xersi/. paroimi/a e)pi\ tw=n spoudh=| ti poiou/ntwn. kai\ *)antlh/sate u(/dwr: ai)tiatikh=|. a)ntlw= soi de\ u(/dwr.
Notes:
[1] Also in Zenobius 1.98 and other paroemiographers.
[2] If the phrase "I am drawing water for you" is a quotation (rather than simply being a paradigmatic phrase to illustrate this idiom with dative of person), it is unidentifiable. However, the aorist a)ntlh/sate u(/dwr is attested several times in Christian writings as a variant of the future a)ntlh/sete u(/dwr in the Septuagint (Isaiah 12.3: a)ntlh/sete u(/dwr met' eu)frosu/nhs e)k tw=n phgw=n tou= swthri/ou.
