Aristophanes in Clouds [writes]: "ah me; won't someone toss me a fleecing scheme out of fleeces?" He played [on words] as regards a)rnei=sqai ["to deceive"], changing the name from arnoi ["lambs"], and "to fleece [a)rnei=sqai] the creditors". But a)posterhtri/da is at the same time from a)posterei=n ["to fleece/deprive"], and yet also means a [fleece] blanket.[1]
