Headword: Anoimôti
Adler number: alpha,2777
Translated headword: alaslessly, without moaning
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] groanlessly. Also [sc. attested is] a)noimw/cate ["you cried oimoi"], [meaning] you wailed aloud.[1]
Greek Original:
Anoimôti: astenaktôs. kai Anoimôxate, alalaxate.
Notes:
The headword adverb literally means without cries of oimoi, the Greek equivalent of "alas" (see omicroniota 101, and cf. omicroniota 102. In the form a)noimwti/ it is attested only here and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon; but a)noimwktei/ occurs in Sophocles, Ajax 1227.
[1] Besides here, this form is attested only in (and is perhaps, therefore, quoted from) John Chrysostom, Quod regulares feminae viris cohabitare non debeant 2.62.
