Headword: *)onei/deios lo/gos
Adler number: omicron,335
Translated headword: reproaching speech
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] one which is reproachful.
Greek Original:
*)onei/deios lo/gos: o( o)neidistiko/s.
Same entry, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon (1452). The headword phrase is not otherwise attested as such, but probably derives from commentary to Homer, where forms of the adjective o)nei/deios often modify words denoting some form of speech -- chiefly in the formulaic phrase o)neidei/ois e)pe/essin ('with reproaching words'): Iliad 1.519, 2.277, 16.628, 21.480; Odyssey 18.326. See also o)nei/deion ... mu=qon ('reproaching word') in Iliad 21.393 (the scholia to which are adduced for comparison here by Adler) and 21.471.
