The only known man of this name -- who features in a passage once assigned to Cassius Dio's Book 21 known to us from Zonaras (see bibliography), but latterly re-attributed to Polybius -- is the Numidian who assisted Hasdrubal (alpha 4133, alpha 4134) during the siege of Carthage by Scipio Aemilianus (sigma 616, alphaiota 199) in 147 BCE. He had brought supplies to him by sea until Scipio dammed the entrance to the harbour and sent C. Laelius to destroy his fortress. He was evidently captured, for he was later a prisoner in Italy. The sentence cited here may refer to an earlier event or come from the original account of Scipio’s two actions to deprive Hasdrubal of Bithias’ support. Through these Scipio brought starvation to Carthage.
