Headword: *cenokopei=n
Adler number: xi,41
Translated headword: to strike foreigners (?)
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
In reference to receiving blows. Thus Metagenes [sc. uses the word].[1]
Greek Original:
*cenokopei=n: e)pi\ tou= plhga\s labei=n. ou(/tw *metage/nhs.
Notes:
A troublesome entry. It is based on Photius xi22 Theodoridis, where however the editor notes that the Suda contributor has taken it upon himself (suo Marte) to change e)/labon in the glossing phrase to labei=n. If the gloss should indeed read "In reference to 'I received blows'," the headword itself is likely to be a finite verb also, and Theodoridis follows Meineke, Dindorf and Cobet in thinking that it should be cuneko/phn 'I was beaten' (a variant of the suneko/phn in [Demosthenes] 47.41).
If, despite all the above, the Suda's headword is correctly transmitted, it will be a (comic) compound verb along the lines of delta 444, epsilon 840, kappa 2387, kappa 2432, pi 1919, rho 144; but LSJ ignores it.
