Headword: *(ufh/fasmai
Adler number: upsilon,729
Translated headword: I have been woven
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Attic perfect [middle/passive]. [Present] u(fai/nw, [future] u(fanw=, [perfect active] u(/fagka, [perfect middle-passive] u(/fammai. But the Attic-speakers have a habit often with such verbs to turn the consonant before the mu into sigma, [so u(/fammai] becomes u(/fasmai. But since the Attic perfect never has the same vowels in the first and second syllable, the upsilon is turned into eta, and it becomes u(fh/fasmai.
Greek Original:

Notes:
cf. Choeroboscus, Grammatici Graeci 4.2.2.91.5; also in ps.-Herodian, Etymologicum Magnum 785.48, and (according to Adler) the Ambrosian Lexicon.
The headword (first person singular) as well as the third person singular u(fh/fastai and the infinitive are attested only in grammarians and lexicography. See LSJ s.v. for the various forms (web address 1).
