Headword: *qelktw/
Adler number: theta,109
Translated headword: charmer
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning she who is] flattering.
Greek Original:
*qelktw/: kolakeutikh/.
Note:
= Synagoge theta33; Photius, Lexicon theta69. The headword is unattested elsewhere, but may be a feminine anthroponym or theonym (which would explain the accentuation), or it may be instead a corruption of *qe/lktwr, the (unattested) nominative form of the dative hapax qe/lktori ('charmer'?), used adjectivally as an epithet for the goddess Peitho ('persuasion') at Aeschylus, Suppliant Women 1040 (web address 1). Either explanation would account for why the gloss here is feminine. See LSJ entry for qe/lktwr (web address 2); and cf. generally theta 103, theta 108, theta 109.
