Aristophanes [writes]: "that very clever man Euaion [came forward] naked [...] and said some very democratic things: "you see me [too] in need of four-stater protection; nevertheless I will speak [...]: if the fullers provided cloaks for the needy, whenever the sun turns, none of us would ever get pleurisy"."[1] This Euaion was a poor man.
It is a proper name.[2]
"And as to those who have no bed or even bedclothes, let them go, when they have washed, into the tanners' [sc. quarter] to sleep; and if he shuts the door on them, when it is winter, let him pay three goatskins," and "let the barley-dealers provide three measures as dinner".[3]
