Headword: *sumbioth\s
Adler number: sigma,1369
Translated headword: living together, symbiotic
Vetting Status: high
and [sc. also attested is the related verb] I live together.
Greek Original:
*sumbioth\s kai\ *sumbioteu/w.
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in mss AF, but a marginal addition in M (and placed later in V).
The normal classical word for a plant living in symbiosis with another or for a couple living together is su/mbios, and the related verb sumbio/w. However, the verb in this entry is reasonably common, especially in Byzantine Greek (cf. beta 298). The noun, the primary headword, is unattested in this form, although sumbi/otoi (Eupolis fr. 448 Kock, now 484 K.-A.) is found once and sumbio/th ('wife') twice on inscriptions (see LSJ for refs.).
