Headword: *para/stasis
Adler number: pi,441
Translated headword: discord, strife, sedition
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] dissent from someone without honor. It occurs too in reference to those owing debts.[1]
Greek Original:
*para/stasis: sta/sis para/ tinos a)/timos. gi/netai de\ e)pi\ tw=n xrewfeiletw=n.
Notes:
The headword is a feminine noun in the nominative singular; see pi 442 and pi 443 for other meanings and, generally, LSJ s.v. If the Timaeus entry (see next note) permits the inference that a passage in Plato lies behind the present entry, it will presumably be Laws 855C (accusative plural); but in fact, despite Timaeus' title, the inference is not mandatory.
[1] The headword is identically glossed in Timaeus' Platonic Lexicon (pi999a13) and in Photius' Lexicon (pi301 Theodoridis), except that (as Adler notes) these lexica read para/ tina: over someone.
