Translation:
There is a certain stone so-called, which has a natural power to draw iron to itself. In Egyptian Alexandria in the Serapeion there was a mechanism of deceit and wickedness of this kind: having made a statue of bronze and nailing iron inside the head, they fixed this stone above in the coffers of the ceiling opposite. The statue being drawn by the natural force of the stone, for it was hung up in the air, by great mechanism and skill was held between the floor and the ceiling, causing great amazement and not at all pulled down.
