Headword: *mw=kos
Adler number: mu,1319
Translated headword: mocker
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning a] derider, dullard, jester; also [sc. attested is the participle] mwkwme/nhs ["she being mocked"]; [meaning] she being derided.[1]
Greek Original:
*mw=kos: xleuasth/s, mwro/s, skw/pths: kai\ mwkwme/nhs: xleuazome/nhs.
Notes:
The accentuation of the headword, mw=kos, ought to mean that it is the abstract noun "mockery", but the glossing terms show that it should have been -- as, in other lexica, it is (see the references in Photius mu642 Theodoridis) -- mwko/s (quoted from the Septuagint: Ecclesiasticus/Sirach 33.6).
[1] For this verb cf. mu 1320, mu 1321. The present entry's feminine genitive singular mwkwme/nhs, with the same glossing in the other lexica, must be quoted from somewhere; the source is taken to be Gregory of Nazianzus, Poems 2.2.8.18. The verb is usually middle (mwka/omai) but if the sense here is passive, cf. the active mwkw= at mu 1321.
