Notes:
[1] Same or similar glossing in other lexica (see the references at Photius mu477 Theodoridis), and in a scholion on Homer, Iliad 4.137 (web address 1).
[2] Greek Anthology 6.292.1-3 (Hedylus): variant reading for *nikono/h| suneph/ien "went to Nikonoe." See also alpha 1357, lambda 63. On this epigram, Niconoe's dedication to Priapus for her victory in a beauty competition, see Gow and Page (vol. I, 100); (vol. II, 289-290); and further excerpts at alpha 1539, theta 12, kappa 241, lambda 468, and pi 2936. On the Laconian robes, also undoubtedly sea-purple, see alpha 1357 note. Although Gow and Page note that the metaphor of Niconoe "drinking up" her prizes is incongruous (vol. II, 290), they nonetheless observe that C.F.W. Jacobs (German classical scholar, 1764-1847) followed the Suda and the Anthologia Planudea here in reading sunepe/kpien with *nikono/h in the nominative (vol. I, 100).
