Headword: *kallierw=
Adler number: kappa,219
Translated headword: I obtain good omens, I obtain favorable sacrificial signs
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A verb. The second [sc. person singular is] kallierei=s[1]; and the [related] noun kallie/rhma.[2] Every sacrifice is dear to God.[3] And on the one hand Christians obtain good omens at the time when they bring themselves to God having become contrite in spirit and humbled in heart. But the Greeks[4] consider that they obtain good omens at the time when having sacrificed to some divinity they happen to find auspicious signs in the liver of the sacrificial victim. And they call this the "auspicious sacrifice" whenever the sacrifice is dear to the divinity because of the deceptive signs [that are] revealed.
