[Meaning] in a great rage; or one who is mad about horses and horsemanship; or to be understood in reference to the meadow. The "horse" [sc. part of the word] is applied to something big, like i(ppose/linon ["horse-celery" and i(ppognw/mwn ["horse-judging"], [meaning] with great judgment.[1] But if it [is said] in reference to the meadow, [it means] one which blooms luxuriantly and exults in young shoots because of the mass [of them]; or [a meadow] which is full of flowers, which drive the horses mad. Sophocles [writes]: "you [Ajax] who walked on the horse-maddening meadow."
