Headword: Ἐκφρησθέντων
Adler number: epsilon,715
Translated headword: of those ordered out
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] of those thrown out. "[... that] with the Epicuruses ordered out of the city the priests purify the shrines."[1] "And they were immediately filled with great joy at his not being ordered out vilified and dishonored by the god."[2]
Notes:
The headword and the initial gloss are aorist passive participles in the masculine (and neuter) genitive plural. This form of the headword appears (in a genitive absolute construction) in the first quotation; the aorist passive infinitive appears (as an articular infinitive) in the second.
[1] Paraphrase from a passage quoted at much greater length at epsilon 2405; attributed to Aelian (fr. 39 Hercher, 42a Domingo-Forasté). "Epicuruses" (Ἐπικούρων ) is not in the original quotation, and is probably a mistake for "Epicureans" (Ἐπικουρείων ), unless the paraphraser was under the impression that the passage referred not to the banishment of Epicureans but of "allies" (ἐπίκουροι ).
[2] Attributed to Aelian (fr.89 Hercher, 92i Domingo-Forasté). The same quotation also appears (misfiled) under epsiloniota 254; and cf. omicron 274.
