[Meaning he/she/it] was mocked,[1] [formed] out of the [verb] pai/zw. But e)pe/xqh ["was coiffured"] [means] was combed out.[2]

This entry distinguishes between two words that would have been homophonous in late Greek: the headword e)pai/xqh (third person singular, aorist passive indicative, of pai/zw ('play')) and e)pe/xqh (the corresponding form of pe/kw ('comb'). The entry may ultimately derive from scholia to Aristophanes, Clouds 1356 (web address 1), where the latter occurs.
[1] For the entry thus far, Adler cites the Ambrosian Lexicon (1574 and 1679). For another form of the same verb, cf. epsilon 2063. For the glossing verb, the compound e)nepai/xqh, cf. under kappa 2500, of Croesus (and in Matthew 2.16, Herod and the Magi).
[2] For the remainder of the entry, Adler cites Ambrosian Lexicon 1577 (and cf. 1576 and 1680). See also epsilon 2112 for another gloss on the same word.
