Etymologicum Magnum 286.46) is incomprehensible. The verb
peteu/w must represent the Attic form
petteu/w of
pesseu/w 'gamble' (at board games), but this connection is implausible. Besides, the
dra- in
drape/ths is the root seen in
didra/skw "run", not that in
dra/w "act". See further at
