Headword: *xh/tei
Adler number: chi,294
Translated headword: for a lack
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] for a deprivation.[1]
"[...] not to dawdle in the [matters?] pressing, for a lack of both strangers and foreigners as fellow-workers."[2]
Greek Original:
*xh/tei: sterh/sei. mh\ bradu/nein e)n toi=s e)pei/gousi, xh/tei ce/nwn te kai\ o)qnei/wn cunergw=n.
Notes:
[1] Similarly in the Ambrosian Lexicon (according to Adler), ps.-Herodian 150, and ps.-Zonaras 1852. The headword is the dative singular of xh=tos ("lack, need"). It must be quoted from somewhere: probably not the illustrative quotation given below (which the other lexica do not have) but rather e.g. Homer, Iliad 6.463; see the scholia there, and again chi 295.
[2] Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable.
Keywords: biography; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; epic
