Here, the epigrammatist ridicules a Cynic for having worn slippers--and even going so far as dedicating them to Aphrodite--when walking barefoot is much to be expected; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 124-125) and (vol. II, 362-363). For the Suda's sku=la *Poswxa/reos, read sku=l' a)po\ *Swxa/reos; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 124). Gow and Page see it as likely that, since Sochares is an uncommon name, but does occur elsewhere, the Tarentine is gesturing at a real person and not mocking cynical thinkers in general (vol. II, 362).
