[Astydamas] the elder, son of Morsimus the son of Philocles, both tragic poets; an Athenian, a tragic poet. He wrote 240 tragedies and won with 15. He was a pupil of Isocrates[1] and turned to tragedy.

Ἀστυδάμας, ὁ πρεσβύτης, υἱὸς Μορσίμου τοῦ Φιλοκλέους, τραγικῶν ἀμφοτέρων, Ἀθηναῖος, τραγικός. ἔγραψε τραγῳδίας σμ#, ἐνίκησε ιε#. ἀκροασάμενος δὲ ἦν Ἰσοκράτους καὶ ἐτράπη ἐπὶ τραγῳδίαν.

C4 BCE. See OCD(4) s.v. (p.191) for both this man and his son (alpha 4265) of the same name -- to whom, in fact, the second sentence here is thought to apply. See also sigma 161 for an anecdote relating to one of these two.
