The third-person singular headword is evidently extracted from somewhere (other than the quotation given, which has the third-person plural); there are numerous possibilities.

[2] Perhaps Aelian, according to Adler. In any event the episode in question is the one also mentioned by Thucydides 1.128 (see tau 206). In this version of it, as noted long ago by Thomas Reinesius (1587-1667), the word "Spartiates" is a mistake for "Helots".
