*)anodi/a|: e)pi/rrhma topiko/n. oi( de\ plei/ous a)nodi/a| kai\ kata\ ta\s nh/sous diespa/rhsan.
Note:
[1] Polybius 3.19.7 (web address 1, cf. delta 818), which properly reads kata\ th=s nh/sou; only one island is concerned, Pharos (Pharus, Barrington Atlas map 20 grid D6) in Illyria (present-day Croatia). During the Second Illyrian War (220-219 BCE) in 219 Roman Consul Lucius Aemilius Paullus (cf. OCD(4) s.v. Aemilius Paullus(1)) disembarked the bulk of his invading force at night, quietly positioning them in scattered wooded areas of the island, so that in the morning they might ambush the defenders under Demetrius of Pharos (cf. OCD(4) s.v. Demetrius(7)). The surprise attack was successful, and this passage describes the flight of Demetrius's troops after the rout.
