[2] This is the myth most familiar to us from Sophocles' Trachiniae -- where, however, only blood is mentioned (572). In Diodorus Siculus 4.36.5 Deianeira is told to mix sperm (gonos), oil and blood. The Suda's version was attributed by de Boor to either Nicolaus of Damascus or John of Antioch, and latterly Favuzzi (cited under delta 404) has argued for Nicolaus.
